Aircraft Maintenance Planning
Maintenance program bridging transitions the maintenance requirements between two different maintenance programs of an aircraft complying with the Manufacturers MPD and MRB. This is most commonly required by Lessors for an aircraft returning from a airlines particular FAA or EASA Approved Aircraft Inspection Program (AAIP). The aircraft must be bridged back into the Manufacturers program to allow the subsequent lessee or buyer the ability to easily transition to their program or began operations without delay for a secondary acceptance work scope
The bridging process can be conducted at different levels (block level, task level, subtask level, etc.). Other methods or a combination of methods can be used, depending on individual cases. The most common is to conduct the bridging process at task level. The block level transition is possible only between identical blocks. It is necessary to go through all the tasks into the blocks to make sure that the block contents in both programs are the same. Some adjustment in this process at task level may be required if there is any difference between the old and new blocks.
In most cases the task level bridging is preferable due to its flexibility. It can be used whether the programs are equalized or blocked. Since the intervals of each task differ significantly, the task level bridging allows the evaluation of the remaining time for each individual task, giving options to build the transition package (work scope) in the most cost effective way.
Besides the aspects covered above, some particular issues should also be considered when building the bridging package, such as local regulatory authorities requirements, planned utilization and contractual requirements.
